What is Vacuum Casting Silicone Mold

 

 

Vacuum Casting Silicone Mold is a rapid manufacturing process used to produce high-quality plastic parts in small quantities without the high cost and long lead times of traditional injection molding (also called soft tooling for urethane casting). The core process is to create master pattern, and make the silicone mold and casting under vacuum. The materials can be a wide range of resins, similar to ABS, PP, PC, PA, Rubber…Mechanical properties are close to those of real injection-molded parts. But from master pattern to finished parts, the process can be completed in 3-7 days and no expensive steel tooling is required. It is perfect for Product Development, Bridge Production or Custom Parts

 

------------Five key steps to understand the vacuum casting process---------------

Step 1

Making Master Pattern

Master can be made from SLA or SLS or CNC machining. Critical to considering the shrinkage to get the accurate master parts

Step 2

Making Silicone Mold

A single silicone mold can typically produce 10 to 20 products.

Step3

Preparing the materials and pouring

Choosing the correct materials and mix precisely according to the specified ratio, then pour into the vacuum machine's tank

Step4

Vacuum Casting

Critical step and Core of the vacuum casting process. During -0.1 MPa Vacuum Environment Extract the air bubbles entrapped in the raw materials during mixing.

Step5

Curing, Demolding & Finishing

Normally cured in an oven at 60–70°C for approximately 1–2 hours to accelerate the chemical reaction. Then get the parts with post-processing steps-such as deburring, sanding, painting, and silk-screen printing
